HOUSTON — The Yankees continued their winning streak on Saturday. They beat the Astros 8–3, improving to 18–9 on the 2026 season.

The Yankees hold the best record in the American League through the first month of the season.

They did it in the way they have done it lately, good starting pitching and getting on base till the flood of runs opens.

Pitching Highlight

Ryan Weathers was solid today. He allowed two runs across 5.1 innings pitched. The run in the first inning was partially bad luck from a ball that just got by the reach of Ryan McMahon at third base.

For the exception of the home run to Yankee killer Carlos Correa, his off speed stuff looked really good and he was able to get contact and with the Yankees defense, get outs.

Weathers is beginning to come into his own with the Yankees. He was the biggest external add for the Yankees this offseason, and right now he his showing his worth.

Hitting Highlight

Jose Caballero continues to be productive in the Yankees lineup. He had a bunt single, before getting thrown out at third base trying to steal the bag with nobody out. His next at-bat he gave the Yankees a 2–1 lead with a solo home run.

Caballero would go onto have another hit later in the game and once again get caught stealing third base. It costed the Yankees a run at the time.

Notable

Jake Bird and Camilo Doval both worked scoreless innings in high leverage. For Doval, his velocity in the outing was noticeably up. That is an encouraging sign

Bird retired the side in order, getting a strikeout and weak contact.

Neither pitcher has pitched in a bit because of how dominant the Yankees rotation has been as of late, so seeing improvement
