Takeaways from the game tonight:
The Bronx, NY — The Yankees and the DBacks squared off again for another awful Yankee offensive showing.
– Yanks offense was flat against Gallen.
– Rodon gave up 4 runs early, but locked in after getting Naylor to ground into a DP in the 3rd.
– Rodon’s final line: 6.0 IP, 3 H, 4 ER, 4 BB, 5 K, 96 P
– Yankees struck out 13 (16 overall) times against Gallen (3 of them from Judge)
– Yanks only real chance was in the 2nd inning, with 2nd and 3rd, 1 out, but Dominguez and Rice both struck out
– Gomez looked strong in the 7th inning, not so much in the 8th, walking 2 with only 1 out, but gets a flyout and a 5-3 GO to end the inning with no harm done; ended up walking 3 in 3 innings of work
– Wells had 2 hits, and ultimately knocked Gallen out of the game – Might be time for Boone to shake up the LU (he did mention Escarra catching tomorrow because of the time of Friday’s game):
– Pablo Reyes pinch hit for Cabrera in the 8th inning, and Flew out to Right. – The Yankees had 2 base runners since the second inning, the Cabrera SO/WP and Wells Single – Yanks have struck out 29 times in 2 games.
– Belli and Judge single to lead off the 9th, Jazz flys outs to advance Belli to third, VOLPE 3 RUN HR, but Wells pops out and Dominguez strikes out .
Volpe HR:
This was a winnable game, but the offense no showed till the 9th. The D-Backs did not score since the 2nd inning. Gomez stepping up saved the pen’ for Tomorrow and the weekend.
