BALTIMORE, MD — Instant Reaction to the Yankees 7-0 win against the Orioles, improving to 86-67 on the season.

  • The Yankees got on the board in the first against Povich, with a leadoff single by Goldschmidt, followed by a one-out walk by Bellinger and a teo-out, two-run double by lefty masher Amed Rosario, giving the Yankees the early 2-0 lead.
  • Max Fried pitched a 1-2-3 bottom of the first inning.
  • Jose Caballero reached first base on a bunt single after Volpe got called out on a pitch well below the zone. Caballero would then be picked off trying to steal second base.
  • In the second inning, Fried would get into trouble, allowing a walk and a single, both with one out, before striking out Samuel Basallo and getting Jorge Mateo to ground out and end a scoreless second inning.
  • The Yankees did not score in the third inning, after a Judge walk with one out, followed by a double play off the bat of Bellinger.
  • Max Fired would pitch a 1-2-3 third inning, striking out the side.
  • Cade Povich followed suite, striking out the Yankees in order in the fourth.
  • Max Fried would again pitch a 1-2-3 inning
  • The Yankees would tackk on a run in the fifth inning with a Volpe leadoff double and a steel of third, followed by a walk to Caballero and an RBI single by Wells, making it 3-0 New York.
  • Max Fried would pitch a 1-2-3 fifth inning.
  • The Yankees would have some traffic in the sixth inning, but aided by a poor baserunning play by Jazz, getting picked off trying to steal third, the Yankees were unable to score.
  • Max Fried got into some trouble, with singles with one out and two outs, but did not allow a run. Fried would strike out three in the inning.
  • The Yankees would give their ace some breathing room in the seventh inning, scoring four runs on three waks, two hits and a sac fly.
  • Max Fried pitched a quick 1-2-3 seventh inning, striking out two batters in the inning to tie a career-high, 13, set last season when he faced the Red Sox at Fenway Park as a Brave. His stuff was absolutely electric.
  • Max Fried’s day was done after seven strong innings. His stuff, specifically the curveball, was ultra dominant. Fried is the ace of the Yankees staff for a reason.
  • The Yankees would go down 1-2-3 in the ninth inning. Jasson Dominguez would also pinch-hit for Stanton, something to watch.
  • Paul Blackburn would come on and finish the game for the Yankees, saving their bullpen.
